But if we are sticking with the familiar, that may prove to be more Torchlight 3, instead. Torchlight 3 is not a just-announced title, but instead a name and model change. Torchlight Frontiers was a sport that's been in testing for some time now, and Runic Games has come out with a statement about its own fate.
From this alpha testing, the comments they received, and that they agreed with, was that Torchlight Frontiers ought to be tweaked and turned to full-blown Torchlight 3. This also comes with a version modification, as Frontiers was likely to become a free-to-play MMORPG, but has become a"premium" pay-up-front title rather, which I doubt many gamers will fret about.
Back after Diablo was the ARPG both main rivals were Torchlight and Path of Exile, two very different takes on precisely the exact same idea. I gravitated more toward Torchlight, since it felt less complex and much more rewarding than it had been to learn the ins and outs of PoE, which I never got to. Suffice to say I am extremely excited to see what Torchlight 3 will be like with a turn into MMORPG territory.
We are aware that Torchlight 3 will be released some time in 2020, meaning that yes, it is going to get before Diablo 4 and scratch that itch for a while. Torchlight wasn't a series that I put a whole lot of time to ("only" several hundred hours, maybe), in comparison to Diablo, but a full-on sequel undoubtedly gets me more excited than Frontiers and whatever its f2p gimmicks could have been.
We're currently heading toward a spot filled with much more loot-based games than ever before. This is my genre but guy, I will need to make some choices. But that is a fantastic problem to have, I suppose.
