EA confirmed soon afterward in May a new Madden NFL game could be published later in the year (alongside a brand new FIFA instalment). As a result of pandemic, a normal photoshoot of Lamar Jackson for the game's pay was not possible. As such, photographs of the participant were supplied by the team's official photographer.
It had been confirmed that the game would establish for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 28. EA also confirmed that Madden NFL would be coming to Stadia, which makes it the first Madden game to start Google's cloud streaming platform. It was also announced that Madden NFL 21 would be accessible on PS5 and Xbox Series X later in the year.
EA confirmed that the sport would allow free updates to next-gen variations for those who own it on PS4 or even Xbox One. However, EA placed certain restrictions set up, with a restricted time window for buying the sport and then for redeeming the update for people who desired to avail free next-gen upgrades. After criticism to the decision, EA extended the window, stating that players could update to next-gen variations at any time prior to the launching of Madden NFL 22 a year later.
In late May, it was announced that Madden NFL 21 would be formally unveiled using a reveal trailer on June 1. However, shortly prior to that, EA pushed back the game's reveal due to the nationwide protests in the United States following the killing of George Floyd. The game was later revealed in complete later in June. Due to Washington Redskins declaring it might be changing its name to fall the team's controversial moniker, EA announced that the team's latest logo and title would be removed from Madden NFL 21 as well, and would be replaced by a generic name and logo until new ones were finalized, which would then be inserted into the game later.
