Personal speculation: PSO2 is being ported into the NGS motor to keep players occupied between NGS content releases. No new content will be published to it outside of makeup, of which will be obtained/ported out of NGS events/scratches to have people to perform with that. It is going to be eliminated after a few years after all of the players have migrated over and the only people in the PSO2 blocks are diehards holdouts/nostalgia. Probably. It's a brand new game so chances are like any Online RPG the first release won't have much about an endgame for the players who hit maximum level on day 1. It will be wonderful to simply switch cubes anytime I wanna hit up an older UQ though. There is never a reason to not visit magatsu.
Great FAQ, answers a whole lot of my initial doubts.
Gosh, this looks so complicated. On the 1 hand, kudos for keeping the game intact so that there will not be a riot over fluctuations people don't like. However on the flip side, since they're remaking base PSO2 visuals anyway, I wish they'd just go 100% and synchronize personality models entirely. Giving old players a few free style items and unlocks will be enough to bribe everyone to take the new system.
Synchronizing 100% character models does not sound easy. The dilemma is that the old outfits and layer use are modeled to fit the aged pso2 body. In order to synchronize it, they'd have to recreate from scratch (haha pun) 8 years of makeup. That is not likely to happen. Well, I mean that I'd be ready to shed a certain proportion of those makeup to keep things intact around versions. Provided that there's a continuous feed of cool new things to replace it, I do not mind. I constantly rotate out my old looks anyway. As long as the character versions translate 1:1 it'll still feel just like mine.
The instance I can think of is the Monster Hunter Frontier Z cooperation where I can imagine the clothes and weapons could unquestionably be given a visual update alongside everything else but that I don't exactly know how the licensing or the way the legal side of the collaboration functions where I'd wish it had been as easy as Sega going through and updating the assets but I do not know about how much Capcom is involved in this procedure.
