I had the same fear but the moment I began Skilling a little I got addicted again. I left the day of RS3 release and I still have never logged in to rs3. I've a Max battle account with a few other 99s in it so I feel the hassle of having to do things over again in 07 but at the same time that it's almost nostalgic to train and I get that Hurry getting levels again. Restarting really sucks but once I started playing I couldn't stop. The cellular release has really helped. I can play Anywhere which makes it very simple. It's nice to have the ability to skill while on lunch break.
Curious to know if anyone's in the beta along with your ideas on if you will use it and if you believe that it'll be a victory. Additionally, do you believe Jagex are prepared for the world of mobile that is as susceptible to cheating as the normal game? I can only assume they're working to make sure people can not cheat but I can not see all of their preventative measures working. I am personally looking forward to playing on the go. I believe I could deal with the game because capacity, whereas sitting down and enjoying it just is not my thing. Particularly when there are so many different games to play.
This probably contributes to more discussion about the portability and together with the successes of the nintendo change I could see why mobile are a fantastic way to get folks interested. Although I really do think if Jagex start gearing Runescape towards mobile users you may see even more micro-transactions and casual gaming examples. I also think RS would be a vastly different cellular game than most - mechanics-wise and because of the truth that it originated on the internet. I'd assume better performance could exist for those that play on line, but my mindset is too narrow. I just can't see myself risking my things going bossing or PVPing.
