Yeah, but they could have just as easily said"because of growing pressures" or even delayed without saying anything. Picking a side of the fence means probably devoting some investors, board members, partners and clients. Consumers see EA for some of the dumb shit they do using games they develop and publish, but they don't see what they do for triggers such as equality and workplace diversity (they've ever been given in multiple years). They're actually super innovative internally and should be commended on that. It is easy to be cynical about this sort of thing, but they could just have easily avoided making a statement. Yo, thanks for sharing that info. That's awesome on EA's part. No matter how folks feel about their matches we should commend them for their innovative activities. I am surprised that I'm simply NOW hearing relating to this. I really wish the gaming community would step up and start caring a lot more about stuff like this.
Just as it's the EA name attached to it. Same would happen if it had been Epic or Activision. In case CDPR, Valve or some other cherished company did the same, comments would be wholly different. Edit: Sony did the exact same and the overall reception on these comments are largely positive. Stay fresh, Reddit. I really don't think so. If their primary customer base is African American is doesn't make sense to market to them at the moment. As they won't be spending right now, as games isn't on there heads at this time. Not about honor imo. More or less they not going into the stores immediately to make purchases. A nice gesture, but are not these the very same men and women who censored Colin Kaepernick's name from a song in one of the previous Madden games?
I'll preface this by stating that I don't think that it's a bad thing for them to bring awareness to this issue. It's important that it can not just be dismissed by taking a look from it. With that said, I do hold a certain amount of doubt towards multi-billion buck multinational corporations paying lip service to important social problems. Of course, as a capitalist business they're under no duty to do so, and yet it rings hollow when they try to stand in solidarity with the common people. Currently there are businesses out there that do things and this is the opportunity to highlight those attempts; to demonstrate that they're more than simply words.
I would normally agree in the case of paying lip service to social problems without also putting money and support to advocate for change or implementing it to the organization and their job at the very least. Having said that police brutality is not exactly something that a company like EA throwing cash at the problem does much towards fixing. At best they place money towards the attorneys and groups that struggle to see justice after the fact or lobby to have laws changed that in the current government won't. It's systemic difficulties within authorities of not reporting their own and holding them liable instead staying silent and with the authorities unions that allow it all to happen or in ways even promote it by the consequences being a slap on the wrist followed by being hired in another precinct showing them there is no consequences. Before even getting to legislation and rulings such as qualified immunity that protect abusive cops and allow them to abuse their power freely. The vast majority of that EA and most capitalist businesses are not able to do all that much about making it unjust to say they are at the best possible place to do more.
