Imagine that you have been cultivating ICC for years in order in order to become invincible. It's like getting a level 4 for effort (because the time you put into it) for an 8 level reward. There is less of a difference between reward and effort However, there is more effort needed to achieve an unaffordable reward. There is a chance to click a few times on the shop to get the best mount in the game, or you could farm for several months inside the same raid repeatedly to obtain a less attractive mount. It's been a while since Blizzard made it so nobody cares about mounts any more. It's possible to say that they're not worth the effort as you're simply getting it just for playing the game (6-month sub). I'm not saying that, it feels amazing getting the best gear in the game without putting in any effort. It feels like you've cheat or won. It's unpleasant to have to then do more work to obtain lesser rewards. That's why mythic raids are difficult to finish. This is why no one has to spend months in clearing mythic. You can substitute mythic with the heroic version at the next tier, which takes just two weeks unlike the months of.
This was also the case with Naxxramas. Naxxramas is the company that caused this. This was the problem with gear. They solved it by using mounts. Blizzard is the queen of making you feel like your time is wasted. Then sub numbers fall before they can fix their anti-QoL mechanisms after the game has been dead for a long time.
