On the defensive side, the biggest improvement is in the form of a revamped shooting system. I was always adamant that blocking in previous NBA 2K titles felt lifeless and was ultimately a matter of chance. With new animations, and a more fluid feeling of movement and motion, blocks now feel precise and strong, adding much needed toughness to the game's great centres, that I'm convinced haven't been considered a threat during the previous games.
Play with Wilt Chamberlain's Lakers or Bill Russell's Celtics and you'll see the difference. This increased sense of precision and realism extends to mid-air confrontations, as players in the ring feel more real in their movements.
Highlight reels in earlier games were often ruined or simply ruined by wonky animations that left my giants with the appearance of frozen robots in thin air. In NBA 2K22, players reach, swat and defend in a manner that just feels more natural and hence more effective in majority of defensive plays and situations.
The NBA 2K22 modes are largely unchanged from last year's version but that's not necessarily negative as some of the modes were added to NBA 2K21's newer versions. Alongside MyCareer, MyTeam and MyNBA modes, The W is back, with a standalone career mode based around the WNBA.
For those who are familiar with the original MyCareer users will be pleased to know there are two modes available. MyCareer and MyPark/Neighbourhood modes have now been combined into one MyCareer mode, featuring the expanded version of the previous year's City. However, The City is essentially a expanded and more detailed Neighbourhood It is also packed with places to go and things to do.
