Legend of Zelda Fan-generated rumors were "Frustrating" To Donkey Kong DesignersAlthough Eric Kozlowsky was hired by Retro Studios, it resulted in reports of the company working on a brand new Zelda game.
The artist previously worked for PlayStation's Uncharted series and, due to some reason, that led fans to make an alliance. But, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze which was released in late 2015. When the game's debut was announced at the time, many Zelda fans were unhappy with it, as they were expecting something different. In a new interview for The Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky revealed how that rumor caused frustration for the developers.
"Sometimes it's frustrating because it creates [false expectations]. It was what happened when we announced Tropical Freeze. People were thinking 'they're working on some kind of Zelda game It's an Zelda game' but nope. We've just announced Tropical Freeze and it looks amazing and gorgeous and then people think "oh, it's another Donkey Kong.'
Then you realize that everyone is slamming on it on Neogaf or whatever and you're thinking 'oh, you know, because everybody was thinking we were playing something similar to a Zelda game. But it's there's no way that's what you do.' So it's both: sometimes we laugh at it, but sometimes it becomes irritating when it carries on for a little longer," said Kozlowsky.
Kozlowsky's comments are an interesting insight into the way rumors are spread and can affect the way a game is received. Although Tropical Freeze might not have been the game that many gamers were hoping to discover however, it was praised by the critics with high appreciation upon its launch.
