It was later found out that Sylvanas was not acting for the Horde as such, but her sole objective had been to inflict the least amount of death while serving her real master, as revealed in WoW's newest expansion, World of Warcraft WOTLK Classic.
Saurfang voluntarily gave up his life in order to negotiate a long-lasting peace to the Alliance and remove Sylvanas. The Horde is no longer dependent on an autocratic Warchief and the Horde is now governed by an assembly of leaders from different races as is the way the Alliance functions.
Although the wounds remain far from being healed, Battle for Azeroth's story arc has led to the inevitable process of a permanent treaty between the factions.
How WoW's Cross-Faction Gameplay Will Function
Blizzard has announced that cross-faction gaming will be implemented with the next 9.2.5 upgrade of their current expansion World of Warcraft WOTLK Classic, which is likely still some months from. We don't know everything but the idea is that players will be able select whether their group's manual Finder tool will also be able to display applicants from the other faction.
This would mean that organized finales where a player organizes a team of players will likely consist of two factions: Alliance and Horde players.
