Research by Ash (Action on Smoking and Health) found no evidence that young people are being recruited to smoking through using e-cigarettes, despite a rise in the number of 11 to 18-year-olds who claim to have tried the vaporiser.

The report showed that in 2013, 4 per cent of 11 to 18-year-olds said they had tried e-cigarettes 'once or twice' Tobacco Store, but in 2015 the figure had risen to 10 per cent.

However, said regular use remained rare with 2.4 per cent of young people claiming to use the devices at least once a month.

In the new study, Dr Adam Leventhal, of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, and his colleagues examined whether teenagers who had tried e-cigarettes were more likely to start smoking tobacco during the subsequent year.

The study included 2 Newport Cigarettes,530 students from 10 public high schools in Los Angeles who reported never using regular tobacco at the start, when their average age was 14.

Six months and 12 months later the students completed surveys on any use of tobacco products.

The findings, published in the journal JAMA, showed that e-cigarette users (31 per cent) were almost four times more likely than those who had never tried them (eight per cent) to have smoked tobacco within six months Tobacco Shop.

E-cigarette use was associated with a greater likelihood of use of any regular tobacco product - even when socio-demographic Marlboro Cigarettes, environmental, and personal risk factors for smoking were taken into account Cigarette Tobacco For Sale.

And, relative to those who had never used e-cigarettes at the start of the study, those who had were more likely to be using at least one more regular tobacco product averaged across the next six to 12 months.

Dr Leventhal said: 'These data provide new evidence that e-cigarette use is prospectively associated with increased risk of combustible [regular] tobacco use initiation during early adolescence.

'Associations were consistent across unadjusted and adjusted models, multiple tobacco product outcomes, and various sensitivity analyses.'

He added: 'Some teens may be more likely to use e-cigarettes prior to combustible tobacco Newport Cigarettes Website.

This is because of beliefs that e-cigarettes are not harmful or addictive, youth-targeted marketing, availability of e-cigarettes in flavours attractive to young people, he explained.

And e-cigarettes are also easier to obtain, due to to 'an absence or inconsistent enforcement of restrictions against sales to minors',said Dr Leventhal.
